CASE STUDY
Investing in impact, Peru

Overview
To effectively deliver positive change, considerations around nature-based solutions must include how they affect people in local communities.
Market-leading impact fund Bregal Sphere sought our expertise to conduct HRDD prior to a large investment opportunity in an agroforestry and reforestation project in coffee and cocoa supply chains in Peru.
Our approach
We worked with the project developer to fully understand the project ahead of engaging with potentially affected stakeholders on the ground.
Our in-country team gathered insights into the project risks and impacts, and how these were managed, through discussions with more than 100 rightsholders, including farmers, indigenous leaders and tree nursery workers, and project implementation partners.
Results
We provided recommendations to strengthen project processes and embed HRDD practices.
Our client gained a deeper understanding of the project operations, its potential impacts on people, and the priorities to reduce investment risk, support their commitment to ‘do no harm’ and have a positive impact on people.
The project enabled them to develop an informed post-investment action plan and to apply learnings from the assessment to future investment opportunities.
